The Brain-Based Exercise for Stress I Wish More People Knew About

If you've followed Releaseology for any length of time, you've probably noticed that I don't believe more is always better.
When people have been struggling with unexplained symptoms, it's common to collect exercises from everywhere. A physical therapist gives you stretches. A chiropractor recommends mobility work. A friend shares a breathing technique. Instagram has another exercise that promises to "reset your nervous system." Before long, you're trying twenty different things and wondering why you're still not feeling like yourself.
I see this every week in my clinic.
As a neuro physical therapist, I help medically dismissed adults finally make sense of their symptoms through the lens of neurology. Many of the people I meet have already worked incredibly hard to get better. They've seen multiple providers, completed countless exercises, and have been told everything looks normal, yet they're still dealing with brain fog, dizziness, headaches, jaw tension, poor sleep, digestive issues, chronic pain, or a body that simply doesn't feel like it used to.
Instead of asking, "What else can we add?" I usually ask a different question.
Where should we start?

Why I Almost Always Begin with One Exercise for Stress
If I could only teach one exercise to someone walking into my clinic for the first time, I already know which one I'd choose.
Not because it's a miracle exercise for stress.
Not because it fixes every problem.
But because it helps introduce people to a different way of thinking about stress and the brain.
Most stress-management advice focuses on trying to calm yourself down. While those strategies certainly have their place, I approach things a little differently. I'm interested in the information your brain is receiving every second of the day. Your brain is constantly interpreting signals from your body and your environment, then deciding how to respond. When that information becomes clearer and more efficient, the brain is often able to make better decisions.
That's one of the reasons I keep coming back to this exercise. It's simple, it's efficient, and it's a great introduction to the brain-based approach I use every day at Releaseology.
Stress Doesn't Always Feel Like Stress
One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is, "I don't think I'm stressed."
The truth is, stress doesn't always look like feeling anxious or overwhelmed.
Sometimes it looks like waking up tired even after sleeping all night. Sometimes it's the neck that always feels tight, the headache that keeps coming back, the brain fog that makes it hard to find words, the dizziness that no one can explain, or the digestive issues that seem to flare up for no obvious reason.
Stress can come from much more than a busy schedule. Illnesses, injuries, surgeries, chronic pain, major life changes, caregiving, financial pressure, emotional trauma, and even years of simply pushing through can all increase the demands placed on your brain and body.
That doesn't mean stress is the only reason for your symptoms. It rarely is. But it is one piece of the picture that deserves far more attention than it often receives.
Why I Created the 5-Minute Stress Reset
Over the years, I noticed something happening with my patients.
They would come in, we'd work together, and they'd leave feeling like their brain and body were moving in a better direction. Then life would happen.
Work deadlines would pile up. Sleep would suffer. A family member would need help. They'd get sick, travel, skip meals, or spend weeks taking care of everyone except themselves. Before long, the stress had quietly accumulated again.
I realized people didn't need another overwhelming program filled with dozens of exercises.
They needed something they could actually stick with.
That's what inspired the 5-Minute Stress Reset.
I wanted to create a short, efficient routine built around the same brain-based principles I use in the clinic every day. Something realistic enough to fit into a busy life while still helping people consistently care for their brain and body before stress has a chance to build.
Because the goal isn't perfection.
The goal is giving your brain better information on a regular basis.
A Simple Place to Begin
If you're curious about the way I approach stress, I wanted to give you somewhere to start.
That's why I've made the first exercise I teach almost every patient available for free.
Rather than explaining it in a blog post, I'd rather walk you through it exactly the way I do with the people I work with. You'll also receive a few bonus resources that will help you better understand how stress can affect the brain and body. Register for it here
If you enjoy the exercise and want to learn the complete routine, I'd love to have you join me inside the 5-Minute Stress Reset, where I'll teach the full brain-based system I've developed to help people recover from the effects of everyday stress in just a few minutes a day.
Your Symptoms Make Sense
If you've ever left an appointment feeling unheard, frustrated, or wondering why your symptoms still don't make sense, I want you to know you're not alone.
One of the reasons I started Releaseology was because I met so many people who had been told everything looked fine, while their body was telling them something very different.
I believe your symptoms deserve to be taken seriously.
I also believe your brain plays an incredible role in how your body functions, adapts, and recovers. When we begin looking at your health through the lens of neurology, we often discover connections that were easy to miss before.
That's exactly what I hope you'll experience, whether you begin with the free exercise or decide to dive deeper into the 5-Minute Stress Reset
Sometimes helping your brain receive better information is the first step toward helping your symptoms finally make sense.
